Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) recently announced that it has been honored with three industry awards from the Public Relations Society of America “Best in Maryland” annual awards. The awards are presented annually to public relations practitioners, who, in the judgment of their peers, have successfully addressed a communications challenge with exemplary professional skill, creativity and resourcefulness.
“BGE is committed to the safety of our customers and the sustainability of our communities, and these prestigious industry awards from PRSA acknowledge our commitment and successes,” said Calvin G. Butler Jr., senior vice president of regulatory and external affairs, BGE. “These industry awards from the PRSA Maryland chapter affirm our customer-centric approach to communications, marketing and community relations, and reinforce the positive feedback and support we continue to receive for our programs such as Smart Energy and BGE Wires Down Video Challenge. We thank the PRSA Maryland organization for the acknowledgement of our efforts and proudly accept these awards on behalf of our employees and our customers.”
BGE’s Wires Down Video Challenge took home the highest award, “Best in Maryland,” acknowledging the company’s commitment to public service and safety. In its second year, BGE created the BGE Wires Down Video Challenge to educate children about safety around electrical equipment and the dangers associated with downed power lines.
The company was also honored with two “Award of Excellence” awards. The first Award of Excellence was presented to BGE for its Smart Energy branding and integrated marketing campaign in the Integrated Communications category. Additionally, BGE received an Award of Excellence for Community Relations, honoring the company’s ongoing commitment and support of Operation Oliver. Operation Oliver is an ongoing neighborhood revitalization initiative, led by The 6th Branch, in East Baltimore City. The 6th Branch is a nonprofit organization utilizing the leadership and organizational skills of military veterans to execute aggressive community service initiatives at the local level.
