“Ventris Gibson is a widely respected and experienced human resources professional,” said Mayor Bowser. “She understands the needs of DC and will ensure that our District government attracts and retains qualified, competent and committed employees. Her strong background in labor relations, combined with her human resource management skills, will strengthen the District’s workface and help more residents on their pathways to the middle class.”
Ventris C. Gibson is a Navy veteran who most recently served as the Associate Deputy Assistant Secretary for Human Resources for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). At HHS, Gibson was responsible for providing enterprise-wide strategic and corporate leadership in the development and delivery of innovative and transformational human resources programs, policies, and services that impact nearly 92,000 employees worldwide. She also served as the Director of Administration for the National Labor Relations Board and as an executive consultant with North Highland Company, a global consulting firm. From 2003 to 2011, Ventris was the Federal Aviation Administration’s Assistant Administrator for Human Resources Management. Ventris is a graduate of the Federal Executive Institute, Leadership VA, and Aspen Institute.
Gibson will succeed Interim Director Karla Kirby, who will take on a new role as Chief of Staff at the Department of Public Works.
Gibson is the recipient of numerous awards and commendations, including the Exceptional and Meritorious Service Awards, a Congressional Award for Excellence, and the Northern New Jersey Area Woman of the Year award.
