Donation kicks off three-week, division-wide food drive benefitting the Capital Area Food Bank, other Feeding America food bank partners
On November 14, Giant Food of Landover representatives and members of the Washington Capitals visited the Capital Area Food Bank to donate 2,000 turkeys ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. The donation was a new collaboration between Giant and the Washington Capitals, which matched Giant’s donation of 1,000 turkeys with 1,000 additional turkeys. The event kicked off a three-week, region-wide food drive which will be held at all 167 Giant stores and benefits Giant’s five Feeding America food bank partners including the Capital Area Food Bank.
The Washington Capitals also hosted a canned food drive, sponsored by Giant Food, on Sunday, November 20 during the Washington Capitals vs. Columbus Blue Jackets game. Fans are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items and individuals who donate two or more items will receive a poster of Capitals forward Nicklas Backstrom.
