Join Walk on the National Mall to Raise Awareness, Funds for Top Cancer Killer
On Sunday, November 6 LUNGevity Foundation, the nation’s leading lung cancer focused organization, and D.C. community members will join together for the 8th annual Breathe Deep DC 5K Walk. Event day check-in starts at 9 am and the walk will begin at 10 am – rain or shine. The walk route takes participants around the historic National Mall on a course that is stroller, wheelchair, pet, and bicycle friendly, and concludes at Sylvan Theatre.
NBC4 meteorologist Doug Kammerer will again emcee the walk’s program. Adults and children of all ages are invited to take part. Participants may start a team, join a team, or register as individuals. The walk will include music, free refreshments, kids’ activities, a social media scavenger hunt, and team awards. The Washington Nationals Presidents will even be getting in on the fun, taking photos with participants and more!
Breathe Deep DC was created in 2009 by the late Jerry Sorkin, a Bethesda resident, husband, father of two, and nine-year lung cancer survivor. Jerry dedicated his life to working on behalf of people diagnosed with lung cancer, serving as the Vice Chairman of LUNGevity’s Board of Directors, an advocate, and most importantly, a friend to everyone he met. This year, the walk will offer a special tribute to the walk’s beloved founder, who helped the foundation engage thousands of participants and raise over $2 million since he created the walk.
