One of the goals of Montgomery County Public Libraries’ (MCPL) FY17-20 Strategic Plan is to provide programs and resources in order for residents to learn about current events. Beginning in March, MCPL will offer a new speaker series called Contemporary Conversations @ MCPL.
Kojo Nnamdi, one of the most well-known interviewers and talk show hosts in the Montgomery County/Washington, D.C. area, will be the first speaker in the new series. Contemporary Conversations @ MCPL is a series of talks about cultural and current issues with journalists, authors and other relevant speakers. The series is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Library, Montgomery County.
Host of the NPR program “The Kojo Nnamdi Show,” Nnamdi is celebrated for his knowledge on a wide range of social, political and cultural issues relevant to the nation’s capital and beyond. With a reputation for versatility and exhaustive preparation, Nnamdi has received several awards, including Washingtonian of the Year in 2016 and was named one of the One-Hundred Fifty most influential people in the metropolitan area.
The free event will take place on March 4 at 7 p.m. at the Gaithersburg Library located at 18330 Montgomery Village Avenue.
David Ignatius, best-selling author and prize-winning columnist for the Washington Post, who has covered the Middle East and the CIA for more than twenty-five years, will be the second speaker participating in Contemporary Conversations @ MCPL. He will speak on April 1 at 7 p.m. at the Gaithersburg Library.
“Contemporary Conversations @ MCPL is a forum for residents to talk about cultural and current issues with experienced authors and journalists and to engage in enriching conversations,” said MCPL Director Parker Hamilton. “We are very excited to be able to bring these journalists of such a caliber to our libraries to talk about significant contemporary issues relevant to our community and our nation.”
