Recognizing the vital importance of developing our nation’s next generation of engineers, scientists and technical professionals, the U.S. Army has renewed its support of the Black Engineer of the Year Awards (BEYA) annual conference. The conference attracts the top-performing high school and Historically Black College University students in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and recognizes the top African-American professionals and influencers in those fields.
The U.S. Army has partnered with BEYA to increase awareness about the Army’s educational initiatives and career opportunities in the STEM fields. The BEYA conference allows the Army to highlight its advanced training and education in more than 150 career paths including in-demand fields such as information technology, engineering and health care, among others. The three-day conference kicks off Thursday, February 9 at the Marriott Wardman Park – Washington D.C. The Army will conduct a Pre-College Leadership Workshop lead by Lt. Col. Joel Thomas (bio attached). Maj. Archie Smith (bio attached) will provide opening remarks at the BEYA Pre-College luncheon. An Army scholarship presentation is planned for the luncheon. In addition, the Army will host an interactive exhibit to allow participants to experience Army technology, including robotics and a virtual-reality Immersa-Dome experience.
“The U.S. Army is at the forefront of many of today’s innovations in science and technology. During this conference, there are goal-oriented students and young professionals who are looking for challenges with the opportunity to be a part of a world-class organization,” said Lt. Col. Michelle Nhambure, BEYA Program Manager. “And, we’ll provide them with the leadership training that will serve them well wherever their career path takes them.”
The U.S. Army’s support of the BEYA Conference reflects the organizations’ shared goal of preparing the nation’s youth for educational and career success.
