Biz Markie headlines the Finish Festival with new on-course entertainment planned.
DC Bike Ride, the region’s premier scenic urban bike ride, has announced its Finish Festival Main Stage lineup for the post-ride celebration as well as entertainment acts throughout the 20-mile course. The second annual DC Bike Ride takes place on May 14.
DC Bike Ride’s Finish Festival will be headlined by a DJ set by international hip hop star, Biz Markie. Performing around the world for over 30 years, Biz Markie made VH1’s list of 100 greatest hip hop songs of all time with “Just a Friend.” Also scheduled for the Main Stage is one of D.C.’s favorite cover bands, Jeff From Accounting, known as the “quintessential D.C. area party band.” Local spin master DJ Smudge rounds out the Main Stage performance roster.
New this year to “up the fun from start to finish” is a selection of on-course entertainment, beginning with the national anthem performed by district native, Davis Gestiehr. Rising to fame in 2012, Gestiehr, age 10 at the time, won a contest to sing the Star Spangled Banner at a Washington National’s home game to a crowd of over 36,000 fans.
After departing West Potomac Park (the new start location in 2017), riders will approach mile 2.5 and enjoy the Eastern Senior High Drumline. Up next, the Dupont Brass Band, founded by Howard University music majors, will keep the good vibes going with their eclectic, soulful sound at miles 5.75 and 7.25. The second half of the course will feature Red Bull’s MXT DJ Truck at mile 15 and renowned all-women Afro-Brazilian percussion band, Batalá, at mile 18.
The Finish Festival, which will kick-off at 9:30 a.m. and continue through 1 p.m., will be located on Pennsylvania Avenue between 6th St. NW and 7th St. NW. This iconic location, near the U.S. Capitol, will also feature additional activities including: a post-ride yoga session with Kate Grove of YogaVibez & Sunrise SUP, presented by KIND Healthy Snacks, a diverse food truck lineup, a Kids’ Zone with family-friendly activities, the official DCBR Souvenir Shop and partner activations from Events DC, REI, KIND Healthy Snacks and the Washington Area Bicyclists Association.
