Nearly 10,000 individuals throughout Region Donate to Hundreds of Nonprofits During “Start You’re Activism @ Home”
United Way of the National Capital Area (United Way NCA) released final numbers today from Do More 24’s “Start Your Activism @ Home” which raised 1.67 million dollars, breaking records and making it the most successful event to date. The 24-hour, online giving day took place on Thursday, June 8th and featured more than 600 nonprofits throughout the D.C. region and was supported by donations from nearly 10,000 area residents.
Given the potential deep budget cuts on Capitol Hill and the skyrocketing demand for services from the region’s vulnerable populations, the Washington, DC region’s nonprofit community came together to launch this year’s “Start Your Activism @ Home.” Organizers continue to encourage local residents to funnel their frustrations and concerns over these threatened cuts to our community by continuing the momentum throughout the year and giving locally to nonprofits who will reinvest right here in our area.
“As the area’s largest 24-hour giving day, this year’s Do More 24 ‘Start Your Activism @ Home’ broke records– not only in the amount raised for the community, but also in the average gift amount” said Kelly V. Brinkley, Chief Operating Officer of United Way NCA. “Do More 24 provides area nonprofits with much needed funding to help fill gaps in their budgets, buy needed new equipment and serve the most vulnerable throughout the community.”
Since its inception in 2013, Do More 24 has raised nearly $7 million dollars from over 53,000 donations to benefit hundreds of local nonprofit organizations in the Washington D.C., Northern Virginia and Maryland areas.
