Councilmember Todd was at Raymond Education Campus in Petworth to welcome students and families and celebrate the first day of school.
He had a blast giving out free pencils and meeting Ward 4’s Pre-K, elementary, and middle school students and their families. Councilmember Todd was also delighted to see the shiny new front doors, which he helped secure funding for in last year’s budget, and parents immediately noticed.
As Ward 4’s only extended-year public school, Raymond Education Campus started a week before other DCPS schools, and includes an additional month of instruction. This extends the academic school year from 180 to 200 days with the goal of reducing summer learning loss. In school year 2015-2016,
Raymond Education Campus was the first school in the District to pilot this program, which has been extended to 10 other elementary and middle schools due to its success.
Keep an eye out next week for Councilmember Todd at your child’s school! He looks forward to greeting more students and taking part in the excitement a new school year brings to the community.
