MD Council & MD Works Invest in Job Development Trainings for Direct Support Professionals
The Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council has partnered with MD Works to co-sponsor three ACRE Approved Basic Community Employment Certification Trainings for direct support professionals to assist people with disabilities in their job development and discovery. With this funding, a total of 50 professionals will be certified–20 on the Eastern Shore, 15 in Southern Maryland, and 15 in Western Maryland.
Led by nationally renowned subject matter experts Griffin-Hammis Associates, the ACRE Certification training series focuses on increasing and enhancing development of the Employment First Initiative key competencies for direct support staff. Participants will learn about best practices in customized job development through case studies, videos, and hands-on activities.
Bob Hofmann, President & CEO of Maryland Works stated, “Maryland Works and the DD Council are excited about providing the opportunity to support Community Service Providers (CSPs) in their effort to expand community integrated employment.”
These initiatives address the following objective from the Council’s 5 Year Plan: Increase community-based employment opportunities for people with developmental disabilities, including people with significant support needs.
