This week, Councilmember Todd was honored to be appointed to the National Conference of State Legislatures’ (NCSL) Military and Veterans Affairs Task Force. He looks forward to collaborating with Co-Chairs Rep. Tina Orwall (WA) and Rep. Dan Saddler (AK) on this vitally important work.
“There are over 28,000 veterans residing in the District of Columbia,” said Councilmember Todd. “I am honored and proud to continue to be a voice of support and change for our District’s veterans on this Task Force.”
The Councilmember serves as Chairperson on the Committee on Government Operations. One of the agencies under the Committee’s purview is the Mayor’s Office of Veterans Affairs, led by Director Ely S. Ross. The Committee has worked diligently to determine veterans’ issues in the District. Councilmember Todd has introduced and co-introduced several important pieces of veterans legislation, and in the FY18 budget, Councilmember Todd was also able to secure $60,000 to implement a transportation initiative for reduced fares for homeless and low-income veterans on WMATA and other public transportation.
The NCSL Military and Veterans Affairs Task Force was created to examine issues affecting military-community relations and the health and well-being of service members, veterans and their families.
