Mayor Bowser and the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) announced registration is open for the 35th Annual DC Senior Games (DCSG) presented by Aetna. The games will take place Monday, April 30 – Monday, May 14, 2018 at various locations throughout the District of Columbia. A senior’s version of the Olympics complete with a grandiose opening ceremony, DCSG is a showcase for DC residents age 50 and older to compete and medal in a variety of sports competitions. The DC Senior Games is a yearly competition, hosted by DPR and sanctioned by the National Senior Games Association (NSGA) that features activities including: basketball, bowling, horseshoe toss, pickleball, softball, swimming, tennis, and track and field. Sixty DC seniors are set to qualify in NSGA’s National Senior Games. Senior athletes that fair well in regional games get to compete against other seniors from across the country at the national competition, which takes place every two years. The 2019 National Senior Games will be held Thursday, June 14 – Monday, June 25, 2019 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The DC Senior Games opening ceremony will take place on Monday, April 30, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Kenilworth Recreation Center, located at 1350 49th St NE. The closing ceremony will also take place at Kenilworth Recreation Center on Monday, May 14th at 10 a.m.
