This Year’s Honorees Include Cathy Hughes, Soledad O’Brien, Herman Cain,
Vanessa DeLuca and Beatriz Acevedo
The Multicultural Media Correspondents Association (MMCA) announced that Cathy Hughes, Soledad O’Brien, Herman Cain, and Beatriz Acevedo will be among the honorees for the 3rd Annual Multicultural Media Correspondents Dinner (MMCDTM) #MMCD, which will again be held at the National Press Club on May 24, 2018.
“We are currently at a time when understanding and reporting on the myriad of issues around race and diversity and multi-culturalism is more important than ever. As a reporter I have always found great reward in tackling those often-difficult conversations with straightforward discussion and always undergirded by facts and data. To be honored for this work is very special.” Said Soledad O’Brien, 2018 Broadcast Journalist Honoree. Media giant, Cathy Hughes, elaborated on the importance of the dinner during her recent Facebook Live interview with MMCA.
The MMCDTM is an exclusive, invitation only gathering of media influencers, policymakers, corporate and advocacy organization executives, designed to honor multicultural media industry professionals. This year’s event will be hosted by Comedian Mark Viera and feature political and social commentary by Comedian Jenny Yang.
“With the MMCDTM, our vision of a powerful, collective, inclusive and sustained effort to honor diverse journalists and other media luminaries and to help move the needle on media diversity is now a reality. We are beyond thrilled with the level of engagement and support the dinner has received in just its third year,” said David Morgan, MMCA co-founder and President. Partners and sponsors are vocally championing the MMCDTM and pledging their continued support.
“By assembling all these fantastic media stakeholders, government officials and influencers for a genuinely bipartisan, multicultural and intergenerational celebration, the MMCDTM has emerged as a signature event. We are proud to partner with the MMCA in this effort,” said Antonio Williams, Comcast.
“On the 50thAnniversary of the Kerner Commission Report urging increased media diversity, NABJ is pleased to again serve as a partner for the MMCDTM and join this collective effort to increase media diversity awareness and support,” said Sarah Glover, President NABJ.
“As co-chair of the Multicultural Media Caucus and a past honoree, I would like to congratulate the MMCA on their 3rd Annual MMCDTM and applaud their continued efforts to create an environment for policymakers and media stakeholders to come together to highlight the importance of media diversity. MMCA is an essential part of our ongoing effort to develop policy solutions and establish best practices that move the needle on media diversity and inclusion,” said Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke.
MMCA will also honor Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Co-Chair of the Congressional Caucus for Advancement of Studio, Talent (CAST) and Film Diversity and longest serving Hispanic woman, with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Congressman Charles B. Rangel is a past recipient of this award. Congressman Hank Johnson and many other Members of Congress are expected to participate in the tribute.
